Crescent R&D

Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing Capability

Crescent R&D provides Crescent Pharmaceutical Group with in-house pharmaceutical development and manufacturing capability, supporting the progression of products from formulation and analytical development through scale-up, technology transfer and manufacture.

Acquired by the Group in 2023, the operation brings together pharmaceutical scientists, technical expertise and solid-dose manufacturing capability within Crescent's wider global development and manufacturing network.

Working alongside the Group's Regulatory Affairs, Quality and manufacturing teams, Crescent R&D helps Crescent retain greater control over product development, technical knowledge and the transition of products towards commercial supply.

From Development to Manufacture

Crescent R&D supports multiple stages of the pharmaceutical product lifecycle. Its capabilities include formulation development, analytical development, method development and validation, process optimisation and technology transfer, allowing scientific and manufacturing considerations to be addressed as products progress through development. Importantly, the operation extends beyond laboratory development.

In-house manufacturing capability enables development knowledge to be transferred into pharmaceutical production, providing Crescent with an additional route for the manufacture of solid-dose medicines within its global manufacturing network.

Solid-Dose Manufacturing

Crescent R&D provides manufacturing capability for tablets and capsules, complementing Crescent Pharmaceutical Group's UK and global pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. This combination of development expertise and manufacturing capability creates a direct connection between formulation, process development, scale-up and production. The operation contributes to the Group's wider international manufacturing capacity while supporting Crescent's strategy of maintaining a diversified combination of in-house manufacturing and qualified external manufacturing partners.

Supporting Crescent's Product Pipeline
Crescent Pharmaceutical Group continues to invest substantially in expanding its pharmaceutical portfolio through internal development, external development partnerships and product acquisition. Crescent R&D forms part of the in-house scientific infrastructure supporting this strategy. Development programmes can draw upon formulation and analytical expertise within Crescent R&D while working alongside the Group's Regulatory Affairs and Quality teams as products progress towards regulatory submission, technology transfer and commercialisation. This capability also supports the optimisation and lifecycle management of established products where further technical development is required
.
Part of a Global Pharmaceutical Network
Crescent R&D does not operate in isolation. It forms part of a wider pharmaceutical network combining UK manufacturing operations, global in-house development and manufacturing, and carefully selected contract development and manufacturing partners. This model allows Crescent to select appropriate development and manufacturing routes according to the technical requirements, capacity needs and long-term supply strategy of individual products. By maintaining both internal capability and strategic external partnerships, the Group can build greater flexibility and resilience into the development and supply of its medicines.

Building Long-Term In-House Capability
Continued investment in Crescent R&D strengthens the scientific and manufacturing capabilities available within Crescent Pharmaceutical Group. Bringing development expertise and pharmaceutical production together within the Group supports knowledge retention, technology transfer and the progressive expansion of Crescent's global product portfolio. As Crescent continues to increase the scale and complexity of its development pipeline, Crescent R&D provides an important platform for turning pharmaceutical development programmes into medicines ready for commercial supply.
